Throwback Not-Thursday: Lionheart

I did some winter cleaning and came across some old work I did in my creative writing class at American University. Here’s something different I wrote; different in the sense that normally my prose is rather sardonic, but this is one of my attempts at what people call “seriousness.”

Lionheart

At a distant place and a distant day

My people will see their end times come.

And they will heed the words I say.

The rumblings grow louder from across the way.

The city will fall, the nation succumb.

At a distant place and a distant day.

But it shall stand, and we shall stay.

Upon a shining hill where the angels hum.

And they will heed the words I say.

Good men willingly charge right into the fray.

When matched with such treacherous scum.

At a distant place and a distant day.

But should any man cast his vote nay,

My powerful voice will render them mum.

And they will heed the words I say.

“O brothers! O sisters! Meditate and pray.

Honor the places from whence we have come.”

At a distant place and a distant day.

And they will heed the words I say.
